Plano Citizens Government Academy

Academy Registration for the Spring 2026 class will open Tuesday, Dec. 9.

Citizens Government Academy allows Plano residents to learn more about their city. The 10-week academy highlights a variety of departments, programs and services, and visits several city-owned buildings. Residents learn the basic roles and functions of municipal government through in-person simulations, tours and activities, as well as face-to-face meetings with various city departments. Citizens Academy is a great way for residents to learn more about the responsibilities of city staff and the role of Plano City Council.

Things to consider before you register for Plano Citizens Government Academy:

• Group size is limited for this popular class, so sign up soon to reserve a spot.

The City of Plano offers two other citizen academy programs. The Citizens Police Academy is a 12-week program focused on the role and operations of the Plano Police Department. The Citizens Fire Academy is an 8-week program focused on the role and operations of Plano Fire-Rescue.
