Volunteers in Plano

Established in 1983, Volunteers in Plano (VIP) sets the standard for municipal volunteerism. VIP serves City of Plano staff and citizens by acting as the bridge between departments seeking volunteers and individuals wanting to serve. 

VIP creates and supports meaningful community engagement and facilitates community partnerships through new and innovative opportunities that elevate City services and the quality of life in Plano. 

Volunteerism is at the heart of creating a welcoming and engaged community where individuals are included and connected. VIP supports Plano’s commitment to safe, vibrant communities, ensuring civic engagement from our corporate and small business neighbors, and providing innovative, responsive government services. Volunteers and their impact

VIP volunteers represent a cross-section of Plano’s population. Volunteers are teenagers, active adults, retirees, working professionals, faith groups, corporate teams, caregivers and college students. They bring a wealth of energy, skills and life experience to City departments.

Programs

VIP directly oversees the volunteer placements for Plano Animal Services, Parks & Recreation, Plano Public Library, administrative offices, unpaid internships, special projects and events, workplace giving initiatives and the VIP Teen program. 

We support the programs of Environmental Health & Sustainability, Municipal Court, Neighborhood Services, Fire-Rescue, Police and Emergency Management. 

Additionally, VIP facilitates court-ordered community service placements.
