Turn your passion into purpose by volunteering with the City of Plano’s Sustainability division (Live Green in Plano). Make a difference in the Plano community by volunteering for impactful opportunities related to sustainability.
What We Do
Use the Sign Up button to create an account to be able to search and sign up for available opportunities. We recommend selecting interests and causes that you are interested in volunteering for when creating your account.
Please be sure to select Gardening, Sustainability and Environment to receive information on these types of volunteer opportunities. A background check is required for all adults (ages 18+) to volunteer. For many opportunities, the minimum age to volunteer is 16.
Volunteer Opportunities
· Plano Community Garden workdays - Volunteers help with routine tasks in the garden that can include pulling weeds, special projects, plot maintenance and more. No previous garden experience is required.
· Apprenticeship/plot adoption at the Plano Community Garden - Volunteers can become more involved at the garden through this year-round and more time intensive commitment.
· Outreach & education - Volunteers can assist Sustainability staff with providing environmental education and outreach throughout the Plano community. This includes assisting with information tables, mobile van outreach, eco fairs and more.
· Special events - Volunteers assist with preparations prior to the event, as well as with a variety of roles at the actual event. Special events offered by the Sustainability division include Great American Cleanup, Wonders of Wildlife, WaterWise Landscape Tour, Texas Recycles Day and more.
· Litter Cleanup – Volunteers help keep Plano clean and green by participating in litter cleanups. This opportunity is offered year-round, offers flexibility and is suitable for all ages. Visit the Community Litter Cleanups webpage to learn more and to register for a cleanup.
· Storm Drain Labeling - Volunteers help protect Plano’s waterways and prevent pollution by placing a marker on Plano’s storm drains. This opportunity is offered year-round, is flexible and is suitable for all ages. Visit the Storm Drain Labeling webpage to learn more and to register.
Court-ordered community service opportunities are available through the City of Plano's Volunteers in Plano program.
