Who We Are
Turn your passion into purpose by joining the Live Green in Plano (LGIP) Volunteer Program. The LGIP Volunteer Program provides adults and teens (ages 16+) the opportunity to make a difference in the Plano community by participating in engaging, educational and impactful opportunities year-round, with spring and fall being the two busiest seasons. LGIP Volunteers will also meet like-minded individuals who share the same passion for a sustainable community.
What We Do
We welcome new volunteers into the program twice a year (spring and fall). The LGIP Volunteer Program seeks individuals interested in participating in a variety of volunteer opportunities available year-round, with spring and fall being the two busiest seasons.
There is currently a waiting list to join the LGIP Volunteer Program as spots are limited. Additional volunteer opportunities not requiring an orientation and suitable for all ages are listed below in the “Flexible Volunteer Opportunities” section.
Eligibility Requirements to join the LGIP Volunteer Program:
· Create your volunteer portal account and/or add yourself to the waiting list (please see appropriate links below)
· Attend the required one-time new volunteer orientation* held virtually
· Adults (ages 18+) must also complete a free, no-cost background check after attending the orientation
In orientation LGIP Volunteers will learn about the Sustainability division (Live Green in Plano), how LGIP Volunteers make a difference in the Plano community, as well as volunteer opportunities available.
*Orientations are only held twice a year (spring and fall). The fall 2025 orientation has concluded. The next orientation will be held in January 2026.
The waiting list will be given the opportunity to sign up for an orientation once registration opens (about a month prior to the orientation).
Volunteer Opportunities Offered:
- Garden workdays at Plano’s Environmental Education Center and Plano Community Garden
- Apprenticeship/plot adoption at the Plano Community Garden (a year-round and time intensive commitment)
- Community outreach
- Special event assistance
- Virtual and at home opportunities

Adults (ages 18+)
- New to the Volunteer Portal - create an account using this link or click Sign Up and select the "I'm an Adult 18+ Interested in Live Green in Plano" application from the dropdown menu. When you create your account, you'll be added to the LGIP Volunteer waiting List.
- Have an existing account - login to your existing account and use this link to answer LGIP Volunteer specific questions. You'll then be added to the LGIP Volunteer waiting List.
Teens (ages 16-17)
- New to the Volunteer Portal - click Sign Up and select the "I'm a Teen" application from the dropdown menu. Then add your name to the LGIP Volunteer waiting List.
- Have an existing account - login to your existing account and then add your name to the LGIP Volunteer waiting List.
Flexible Volunteer Opportunities (no orientation required and suitable for all ages)
Litter Cleanup
Help keep Plano clean and green by volunteering for a litter cleanup. This opportunity is offered year-round and is suitable for all ages and doesn’t require volunteers attend an orientation prior to participating. Storm Drain Labeling
Storm Drain Labeling allows volunteers to create awareness about protecting water quality and preventing pollution by placing a marker on Plano’s storm drains. This opportunity is offered year-round and is suitable for all ages and doesn’t require volunteers attend an orientation prior to participating.
